It was just the two of them on the bus. Will had noticed the blonde a couple of times. Sharp dresser. Nice boots. She had a leatherbound book in her lap. Will nodded off from time to time, but the blonde woman never flinched. It was late, and he was happy to be on a bus devoid the usual drunken crowd.
Not that he wasn't drunk. Or high. Probably both. It had been a long Friday night. Will's head bumped the seat in front of him and jarred him out of a daze as the bus slowed.
"28th, Ma'am," the driver said. The blonde nodded and stood up. Will watched as she steadily made her way up the aisle, even while the bus was stopping. Will looked out the window and followed the woman's strong stride as the bus pulled away. It wasn't until he turned back to the woman's seat that he realized her book has been left on the seat. He pulled the stop chain.
